Man killed by police in Stavanger. He took a hostage

Police in Stavanger shot dead a man. The hostage and a police officer were also hit by gunfire.

– The perpetrator was transported to the University Hospital of Stavanger and pronounced dead shortly thereafter, Police Operations Manager Victor Fenne-Jensen said in a press release.

Initial information showed that the hostage suffered moderate gunshot wounds and should not suffer life-threatening injuries.

– The policeman was shot in the chest, but thanks to his bulletproof vest he was not injured.

In the press release: The Police Affairs Office decided to initiate an investigation.

– They will begin an investigation and interview the police officers involved, witnesses and other people with information on the matter. In addition, Kripos forensic technicians assist with crime scene investigations.

The purpose of initiating an investigation is to shed light on what happened and on the more detailed circumstances surrounding the situation in which the shots were fired, we read in the bureau's press release.

Referring to the causes of the dangerous situation, the police write in a press note that just before 22.30 p.m. they received a report of a collision between two cars.
