Construction of a unique joint Norwegian-Swedish police station on the border line between Norway and Sweden will soon begin.

— The SP and AP governments are taking a number of actions to stop criminal gangs. Organized crime is a serious threat, so we must control the border and block the flow of money to criminal circles. Establishing a joint police station with Sweden at the second largest border crossing point is an important step in strengthening cooperation with the Swedish police, says Minister Emilie Enger Mehl.

The government set up a temporary site work in Norwegian side of the border at Magnormoen in 2022. In the spring of 2023, the Sp and Ap government also made it possible to strengthen border control on Magnormoen by purchasing a new scanner. Now Norwegian and Swedish governments decided to start building a unique joint Norwegian-Swedish police station on the border line between Norway and Sweden.

Work on Magnormoen to start as soon as possible

“I intend to entrust Statsbygg with the task of starting construction work on Magnormoen as soon as possible,” says Mehl.

Once the new building is completed, the Swedish Police will move to a shared location working together with the Norwegian one Police. This will create the opportunity to continue the good results that the police are already achieving in border areas.

— Half of the post remains in Norway and the other half in Sweden. A large, open office space and common area will remain on both sides of the border. Thanks to this, the Norwegian and Swedish police will be able to cooperate more effectively and closer in the fight against cross-border crime, says the Minister of Justice and Security.
