The kindergarten year lasts from August 1 to July 31 in all kindergartens. You can keep your place until August 1 of the year your child starts school, or until it is canceled.

How to apply for a change of kindergarten
An application for a change of place in kindergarten is submitted in the same way as an application for a place in kindergarten. It can be submitted at any time throughout the year.
The kindergarten to which you are applying for transfer will offer you a place if there is a vacancy at the kindergarten. When transferring between municipal kindergartens, there is no notice period, but when transferring between municipal and private kindergartens, the notice period is up to 2 months.
When should I register my willingness to take part in the recruitment round for a change?
The deadline for submitting applications for the kindergarten change recruitment round is March 1. Most spots in this round have a start date in August.
You can also apply for a change of kindergarten after March 1. The child then attends the party when free time becomes available places within a year, after receiving an offer for children who have a statutory right to a place in kindergarten.
Who will be the first to receive a place in kindergarten?
Municipal kindergartens have common admission rules. Private kindergartens they have their own statute that determines who will receive the offer first.
What are the rules when changing kindergartens?
- Generally, children who already attend kindergarten do not have the right to a new place in another kindergarten. However, you may receive a change offer if there is a vacancy at one of the kindergartens you are applying for.
- Children who lose their place in a family kindergarten due to age or who lose a place in a company kindergarten between March 1 and July 31 are entitled to a new place. You must apply for a new place yourself by the application deadline of March 1.
- If you have been granted a place at a kindergarten but want to be placed on the waiting list for another kindergarten, you must submit a new application. You will only be offered one place in kindergarten per application.
If I submit an application for a change, will my child lose his place in the current kindergarten?
No, the child will not lose his/her place. If you want to keep your place at your current kindergarten, you can decline kindergarten change offer.
Do I have to give up my place at my current kindergarten if I want to change?
If you are transferring to or from a private kindergarten, or between two private kindergartens, you must remember to give up your place to avoid paying for two places in the same period.
Payment when changing between kindergartens
- Transferring between two municipal kindergartens does not involve any additional costs. You pay the regular monthly price.
- Private kindergartens have their own rules. Read the kindergarten's statute. If you transfer to or from a private kindergarten, or between two private kindergartens, you must cancel your place.
- If the old and new city kindergarten are in different districts, you may receive an invoice from both districts, but the total amount cannot exceed the regular monthly price.
- If you have reduced the price of nursery, you do not need to apply for it again. We recommend that you inform the management of your new nursery so that they can check that you have received the correct price.
