We remind you that on March 24, 2019, an accident occurred on the E16 route near Ryfoss in Oppland. It was attended by a Polish truck driver, who turned out to have as much as 2 per mille of alcohol in his blood. The man lost control of the steering wheel and fell into a ditch. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the drunk driver was a huge threat. A sentence was passed in his case a few days ago. 

Drunk drivers on the roads - there is a verdict!

The district court in Valdres sentenced to 30 days' imprisonment and ordered a fine of PLN 37,5 thousand. crowns. Drivers were also withdrawn their driving license for a period of 3 years. Is this punishment sufficient?

Drinking and driving in Norway - how does the law work?

Norwegian law is very restrictive for drunk drivers. You were arrested under under the influence of alcohol? You won't escape punishment. The alcohol sales policy in Scandinavian countries also plays an important role here. IN Norway doesn't get drunk so easily like in Poland. It is an expensive and exclusive product. There are very few typical liquor stores. In supermarkets and supermarkets you will mainly find beer and drinks with low alcohol content. You can't buy alcohol at every hour - Norwegians also limit alcohol sales on weekends.

Monitoring of alcohol sales in Norway and increased inspections

The police supervise the observance of legal provisions in this area - continuous monitoring of shops and retail chains is ongoing. In many stores, special locks are imposed that prevent the sale of alcohol at selected times.

The size of the penalty for driving under the influence of alcohol

Penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol in Norway are high and severe. Even if no one was injured in the accident, the driver may be imprisoned. He must be at the disposal of the police. The penalty depends on the degree of damage caused by the drunk driver and, of course, the permille content in the blood. When other road users are injured, a drunk driver will probably not avoid imprisonment. If there are no victims, the punishment is usually a fine - its amount depends on the amount of permille in the blood and the convict's earnings, and the withdrawal of the driving license.
