On Sunday, the Norwegian Health Directorate sent a letter to all municipalities in the country informing them of the new COVID-19 testing rules. This is an aftermath after Health Minister Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor) announced changes to the rules on Friday night.

The new rules mean people who have received a refresher dose of the vaccine and have tested positive. They no longer need to perform a confirmatory PCR test. Instead, they are encouraged to record the results on the municipalities' websites.

- A person with a positive self-test result is considered a safe positive case, writes the Norwegian Health Directorate in letters to municipalities .

Also, people who have received two doses of the vaccine and who have been infected with the coronavirus in the last three months. They do not need to perform a PCR test.

Other groups should still be able to test themselves, the Norwegian Health Directorate writes on its website :

  • People who have not received a refreshment can still take a confirmatory test at the city testing station if they need it for certification or for further immunization.
  • A confirmatory test should be offered to all children aged 0 to 16 who have positive self-tests.
  • Persons seeking healthcare for symptoms of an infectious disease should be offered a confirmatory sample with PCR analysis if this is important for diagnosis and treatment.
