Clinical trials will be an integral part of all patient care
Today (11.01.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) the first national action plan for clinical trials is launched. The Norwegian government's vision is to make clinical research integral part of the overall treatment of patients.

The patient will have the opportunity to try a new, promising treatment.

We are ambitious when it comes to clinical trials. The government's goal is to double the number of such trials by 2025. Many more patients should participate in such clinical trials and will be an integral part of the therapeutic offer for patients. Thanks to this medical professional environments they will be able to apply the new knowledge better and will make it possible for more patients to try out new, promising treatments, says Minister of Health and Health, Bent Høie.
Clinical trials examine the effectiveness and safety of treatment methods, medical devices, technologies and drugs. This first national action plan for clinical trials covering the years 2021 to 2025 and all health services and caring.

Reinforcing knowledge at all levels.

A recurring theme of the action plan is to strengthen knowledge at all levels of service. Research should be a natural part of everyday work. This cultural change requires that all patient encounters be viewed as potential sources of research and knowledge. Patients should have the opportunity to see a more diverse, better and more accessible offer of participation in clinical trials, also in areas that currently have a limited knowledge base, says Høie.

30 million crowns for partnership between health care and business.

Achieving the plan's goals will require a team effort from all stakeholders: researchers, medical staff and research staff, especially their leaders. In addition, we rely on good interaction with the business community, academic environment and patient organizations and on a smooth process from the beginning to the end of the study. Research, innovation and cooperation between medical industry and health care are the top priorities in the 2021 budget, Høie said.
One of the most important inputs to developing a roadmap is what clinical research staff needs larger number positions and greater predictability. 2021 has been reserved in the state budget for 30 million crowns. These funds will be allocated, among other things, to the development of skills of nurses and research workers.
We are launching NorTrials, which will be the link between the specialist health service and the business environment. Hospitals and businesses need to select specific areas of interest together. This is a very good opportunity for our professional community and the business community to independently choose the areas where Norway can excel internationally, says Høie.

A future-oriented investment.

We have prepared an action plan that will ensure Norway is good future. Modern diagnostics, digital tools and greater use health data will change health care. These changes must be accompanied by clinical trials and must be used to conduct research in new ways. This action plan makes it easier, Høie said.

Norway is investing.

This year is 101 million crowns has been reserved for strengthening personalized treatment in hospitals. The funds will be used to create modern advanced genetic diagnostics, new gene sequencing equipment and a national genome center. In addition, the national clinical trials program in hospitals has been strengthened by 30 million NOK. This will enable many more patients to receive personalized treatment and participate in clinical trials in Norway. The action plan also includes measures to ensure good and appropriate advice and to improve approval and consent processes.
