The ban on Sunday trading entered Poland very recently, this year. Despite its very short duration, it divided the country, but also allows only a few to earn money.

I don't work on Sundays

The concept of a trade ban has been in force in many countries for a long time. This phenomenon has not been present in Poland for a long time. Its main assumption is family and pro-Christian optics. After many years of trials and quarrels, Poland finally came to a conclusion and passed an act banning Sunday trading. From March 1, 2018, every first and last Sunday of the month is commercial in the country, plus two Sundays before Christmas and one before Easter. In 2019, this is to change and only the first Sunday of the month is to be trading, and in turn, 2020 will bring even more bans.

Exceptions provided for in the act

Since the law came into force, many stores began to look for solutions to circumvent its rules. One such solution is the way of trading by the store owner known to all of us. The law allows the sale of products on non-trading Sundays if the store owner is behind the checkout. Żabka, a chain of stores known throughout Poland, where it would be difficult to meet the aforementioned condition, came up with a different solution.

Breaking the bans

Chain of stores Frog met with many negative opinions about stores being open on trade-free Sundays. As it turned out, the Labor Inspectorate lost in court because the store found the perfect solution. The exception provided for in the law clearly states that a store that has a postal service may as well be open on Sundays. Żabki has signed contracts with postal operators, so the ban does not apply to them.

Eight victories

The Żabka chain of stores referred to has been sued many times. Several dozen cases are pending in court for violating the laws related to the Sunday trading ban. According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, so far eight stores have already been acquitted or their cases have been discontinued.
