The 1995 agreement between the US and Iran will be severed. US Secretary Mike Pompeo announced the decision taken on Wednesday.
Friendly relations
An agreement on friendly relations between the United States and Iran was concluded in 1995. It is about good consular and economic relations. The US secretary announced at the Wednesday conference that, according to them, Tehran is the main source of the current threat to American missions taking place in Baghdad and Basra.

Closing of the consulate in Basra
Washington last Friday announced a planned closure of the consulate in Basra and its relocation elsewhere. The main reason for such a decision is the threats that await the consulate staff by the Shi'ite militia and its rocket fire. As the US secretary himself says, “Our intelligence on this is solid. We see the hand of Ayatollah, Ali Khamenei and his executioners in their attacks on the United States. "
The International Court of Justice and Iran
The US also supports its decision with the alleged use of the International Court of Justice by Iran for political purposes. Iran applied to the ICJ in connection with the large and frequent sanctions that the US was supposed to impose on them. The judges of the Tribunal upheld Iran, arguing the behavior of the United States as inconsistent with the treaty on friendly relations. Hence, Washington believes that their country's withdrawal from the 1995 deal will be of great benefit to them.

The US continues to offer assistance
An important piece of information, which was also provided by the US secretary, is the fact that the United States, despite its decision to withdraw from the agreement, continues to offer its help to Iran. It is worth mentioning that in May this year, President Trump announced that the agreement concluded in 2015 between the US and Iran, concerning the nuclear deal, was terminated. The decisions to terminate the 1995 agreement will take effect on November 4 this year.
