The Polish Catholic Saturday School in Stavanger was established in 2007. Today it is the largest school of this type in Norway. Recently, Łukasz from Radio Wataha had the pleasure to talk to its principals about how the school works and how much Polish children owe it.

The Polish Catholic Saturday School in Stavanger has been operating in Norway since 2007. He conducts activities complementary to the Norwegian school curriculum attended by all children. The teachers at this school teach Polish, history, geography and catechesis. The school year consists of 20 Saturdays, and the teaching system is based on the curriculum for Polish diaspora schools prepared by the Polish Ministry of National Education. Textbooks used for learning are the same as for students studying in Poland.

The largest school in Norway

The school in Stavanger is the largest of its kind in Norway. With the above Currently, there are 320 students using classes, but this number is changing because there are two groups that attend catechesis only. Children from groups that only learn catechesis attend lessons that prepare them for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. In total, there are approx 400 students. IN I work at school 40 teachers and several administrative staff.

charity work

In an interview with Łukasz, the administrative director, Ms Renata, mentions that it is difficult to call people working in the school its employees. Well, all teachers and other people work entirely for charity. Each of 20 Saturdays and the remaining time devoted to preparation for classes are in no way paid for by the school or by other persons. All those people who, of their own free will, help Polish children learn, are characterized by a wonderful attitude that is admirable and respected.

Santa's gift

This year, the school again organized a Christmas present for children in the form of a Sunday theater. The above-mentioned project was prepared with the help of the Polish-Norwegian Association, with which the school has been cooperating for many years on many levels. The aforementioned association is not the only one with which the school cooperates because they try to establish such contacts with all Polish organizations.

The purpose of the school

The main aim of the school is the welfare of children. The teachers put a lot of emphasis on learning the Polish language, but also Polish traditions that result from our origin. The school is very concerned that Polish children do not lose their identity, because no matter where we live, we will always be Poles.

10 years of school

This spring, the school celebrated its tenth anniversary. A lot has changed during this time. At the very beginning, 4 teachers worked there, and the first group of students consisted of 40 people. Over the years, its amazing development can be seen. That is why our entire team wishes all the people who create it another such beautiful and wonderful years of existence. We need such places very much and we are glad that there are people of good heart who create good selflessly and for charity.
