Construction sites in Norway – will there be changing rooms for women? More and more women work in the construction industry. This fact has recently contributed to a very important discussion in the construction industry, namely the lack of changing rooms for women. Ladies working on Norwegian ones construction sites they complain that they have to change in men's dressing rooms. Will there be additional changing rooms for women?

Statsbygg - The Norwegian Building Authority took the floor

A few days ago, Statsbygg provided information about changes in procedures in a special announcement construction industry. The changes will enter into force on 1 January 2020. From this point on, separate changing rooms for women and men will be a requirement on every construction site. An appropriate provision will appear in all tender documents related to future projects.

Construction sites in Norway - the General Director of Statsbygg confirms - changes in regulations must appear as soon as possible: “The construction industry has traditionally been perceived as a male-dominated sector of the economy. Current regulations state that women's clothing must be provided "as needed." When she is employed at a construction site small number women, you might think that there is no need to create separate changing rooms for both sexes. However, perhaps this problem should be looked at from a different angle. How to encourage more women to work in construction, when they are not offered any facilities?”

Construction in Norway - is there a place for women?

Of course. Minister of Local Government Monica Mæland even claims that even starting this type of discussion is strange. Separate dressing rooms for both sexes should be the norm nowadays. There is no consent to discrimination against women in the construction space.  The minister said also: “ When building sports halls, no one argues that women's and men's changing rooms should be built. Therefore, I believe that everyone should take this standard for granted.”

Let's hope so planned changes will enter into force as soon as possible. There are women important and needed workers in the construction industry. They often have high qualifications and predispositions to perform many (sometimes very difficult) jobs.
