Migrants in Norway

The number of immigrants in Norway is increasing every year. The Norwegian Central Bureau of Statistics (SSB) conducted a social survey just before Christmas. It was about trust in people: the survey was conducted among immigrants living in Norway and people born in Norway with immigrant parents. What were the results of the survey? What could Norwegian society learn about itself?

Norwegian citizens - why the lack of trust of immigrants?

It is worth noting that the study took into account trust in society, but also in the political system in force in Norway. As many as 22% of immigrants declare lack of trust in Norwegians. On the scale of the entire society, it is 6%. Every fourth immigrant confirms that he has no fears when establishing social relationships in the country of fjords. On the test result has an impact above all:

  • unemployment level,
  • sense of discrimination.

Migrants in Norway - standard of living in Norway

Interviewed people confirm that still feel discriminated against in Norway. Their standard of living is lower than the general population. This applies to such areas of life as:

  1. Employment,
  2. Working conditions,
  3. Living conditions,
  4. Access to health care,
  5. The amount of earnings,
  6. Interpersonal contacts.

The fate of immigrants in Norway

It is worth noting that when it comes to trust in the political system - here we can observe the opposite situation. Immigrants trust politicians more than native Norwegians. The immigrants from Turkey feel the least confident in Norway (according to statistics, of course!).
