Białowieża Forest - feel connected with nature and history

About 1500 square kilometers of space, the Białowieża Primeval Forest complex is located on the border of Poland and Belarus. It is one of the last such large fragments of primary forest in the European lowlands, a place of unique animals - wolves, lynxes and the largest population of the world bison. It is a unique relic of primeval forest landscapes and over a hundred-year-old stands of natural origin.

When to visit the Białowieża National Park?

… richness of fauna and flora…

In Białowieża, we can find one of the last untouched ecosystems and a stunning richness of fauna and flora. Many of them are exclusive here. Nearly 200 species of various birds nest here (e.g. gadozers, pygmy owls, woodpeckers, hazel grouses, cranes and black storks). No wonder that the forest massif of the Białowieża Primeval Forest was recognized as a bird refuge of world rank, 20 reserves were created here, including a real jewel in the crown - Białowieża National Park and its heart, i.e. a beautiful, 500-year-old forest, which is a Strict Reserve.

Hug the tree and feel the energy of the forest ...

As for the trees, their average age varies greatly: around 80 and 130 years. The oldest oak specimens remember the times of Władysław Jagiełło. The forest is impressive not only with species diversity, but also with the fact that the fauna is in its original state. You can find here 26 species of trees, 56 species of shrubs and 14 different shrubs, while the remaining plants are about 1000. As for mushrooms, there are about 3 of them!

What trees can be found in the Białowieża Primeval Forest?

Białowieża not on its own

The uniqueness of the Forest must be protected, therefore it is not possible to visit the Strict Protection Area completely independently and from a jump. A visit to the park can only take place in small groups and accompanied by licensed guides with the license of the Director of the BNP. Visitors have at their disposal both hiking and biking trails, and educational paths appreciated by families with children. When choosing an option for yourself, you should take into account the time of the year - some routes are closed for some time due to spring thaw or heavy rainfall. It is most convenient to look for a local travel agency that offers sightseeing in several options - shorter and longer. Their employees are true nature enthusiasts.

. What else is worth seeing in Podlasie…

Not only the Białowieża Primeval Forest, but the entire Podlasie region, is a region definitely worth exploring. You can find there as many as four national parks, and beyond them, amazing, unchanged areas for sightseeing walks. It is most convenient to stay in Białowieża itself, which is a good starting point. It is worth noting, among others The Natural Museum of the Białowieża National Park or the palace buildings - the Marshal's House, the Board or the Grodno governor's manor house, like from a Russian fairy tale, some associate .. with a gingerbread house!
