The office must be competent for the place where we live. The application that we want to submit is available both in electronic and paper version and we can submit it as well. There is no requirement in any way that such a request be made by both spouses. It can be submitted by one of the spouses, as well as by both of them. What is very important is that there is no requirement to state a reason why a married couple wants to separate.

A very important aspect, both in the case of separation and divorce in Norway, is the issue of: child care. If we are talking about children up to 16 years of age, the procedure aimed at establishing custody of children takes place in several stages. First of all, before we submit an application for separation or divorce, we must undergo mediation with the voivode. This is nothing more than a conversation that aims at to establish rules child care. Based on this conversation, the voivode issues a document that must be attached to the application for separation or divorce. This document is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

Attorney, in consultation with appraisers and real estate agents, values ​​the property and indicates how it is to be divided. However, this process is longer than in the case of reaching an agreement on the division of property by the divorce parties.

It happens that in special cases, the time related to submitting the application for separation or divorce in Norway is waived. Much depends here on the individual situation in which the spouses find themselves who want to end their marriage. The case is then considered by the court. It is mainly about situations in which we deal with violence - both mental and physical, but also bigamy or marriages concluded between family members.
