Angela Merkel has never been to Auschwitz. On December 6, the German Chancellor will visit Auschwitz for the first time. Currently, preparations for this visit are underway. It is worth emphasizing that in 1991, Angela Merkel traveled to Israel for the first time. Then, Angela Merkel, as Minister of Women's Affairs, met with Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union. During this visit, Angela Merkel was also shown around the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. In the memoirs of a German journalist who describes this visit, there is information that Merkel claims that she "knows little about Israel and Jews."

Angela Merkel will visit Auschwitz. Angela Merkel and her special relationship with Israel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has already visited Israel four times. These visits made Angela Merkel's relationship with Israel special. The chancellor herself also emphasizes this. Chancellor of Germany, she also received three honorary doctorates in Israel. She also very often takes part in discussions about broadly understood anti-Semitism. The doctorates she obtained in Israel are not the only distinctions she has been awarded. She also received a number of decorations from Jewish organizations. Despite this, Angela Merkel has never been to Auschwitz. In December 2019, Angela Merkel will visit the Auschwitz Museum for the first time. On December 6, it will be exactly the 10th anniversary of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. Merkel's visit to Poland will not only cover KL Auschwitz. The German chancellor will also visit the former death camp in Birkenau for the first time.

Angela Merkel's first visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation was established in 2009 and its founder was prof. Władysław Bartoszewski. Chancellor of Germany, as little girl, she heard a lot at school about extermination camps, including the Auschwitz camp. In her statements, she repeatedly returns to the fact that what her teacher told her at school was so real that she dreamed about it at night. He notes that these dreams were the worst nightmares imaginable. Angela Merkel's first visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau is certainly a very important event.
