This is a serious challenge for our health service, says Ingvild Kjerkol in a special statement. As the latest analyzes and research show, doctors (both experienced and those starting their professional careers) are more likely to choose to work in private clinics than in public facilities. The shortage of family doctors is becoming a big problem - this applies primarily to large cities. There, the demand for primary care doctors is really huge. What does this problem look like in practice?

Let's take a closer look at the problem...

How can we better define the scale of this problem? Doctors with many years of experience do not want to work as family doctors. Too much work, too many responsibilities, for a not so attractive salary. There is no point in fooling yourself - private institutions are the leaders in this respect. Doctors working in a private facility always receive better conditions of cooperation than in state units. In addition, the doctor can prove himself in his specific specialization.

Norway: Doctors are more likely to choose private clinics. Why?

On the first Of course, there are financial issues. Doctors feel more appreciated - both by colleagues and even by patients themselves. On the other hand, what also matters is the issues of themselves working conditions – convenient hours and greater comfort. There are more family doctors in small and medium-sized towns. We have a serious problem in large cities and in the capital itself.

The challenge for the Norwegian health service for 2020.

The health service must take decisive steps. Especially since scientists and experts on the subject already see that the problem is serious. What should the health service do to increase number of family doctors in Norway? Modernize facilities? Or maybe she should offer better contracts? Representatives of this institution assure that they will take specific steps. What will be the results? We will certainly find out soon. We will keep you informed about everything important changes and activities in health care.
