Scams in Norway are impersonating Elkjøp this time

We wrote recently about extortion at the post office in Norway and now you may face another scam. I got such a text myself. It happens frequently and there is hardly any strength for it. We must see threats ourselves and be allergic to such attacks.

Elkjøp-It's hard to tell the difference

"We have received several inquiries regarding this latest attempt, and the most important thing we are doing now is informing through the channels available so that our customers are not fooled," says Communications Manager Madeleine Schøyen Bergly.

- New and more creative solutions are constantly appearing. As a result, it is not always easy to see the difference between what is real and what is a fraud, he adds.

This is described in a new fake SMS from «Elkjøp»

How to reveal scammers

Sent SMS messages may contain a foreign number, typographical errors and links to websites other than those claimed to be the sender.

- If you are transferred to another website i you will be asked to enter your credit card number in order to win a prize, our customers can rest assured of that nie it comes from us - emphasizes Bergly.

I advise everyone to be vigilant and delete text messages and emails immediately.

If you are unlucky and that you have registered your contact details on the page that later turns out a scam. We advise you to contact your bank immediately and have the account blocked, says Bergly.

  • Never provide your account information, BankID codes, or passwords via email, text, or phone, no matter who asks for it - be it your bank, family, friends or others.
  • Remember that your bank will never ask for your codes and passwords by email or phone. If you receive such a request, there is probably someone who can cheat you.
  • Do you have a bad feeling in your stomach or find yourself vulnerable to cheating? Contact your bank immediately! The shorter the time it takes to notify the bank, the faster they can run and stop the transaction.

  • Talk to others, especially the elderly, about the methods used by scammers. One of the most effective ways to combat this type of crime is information dissemination.
  • Check the sender's email address against any previous emails you received from your bank. If you are in doubt whether the email is from your bank, contact your bank's customer service center before clicking any links.
  • Remember to change your passwords in email, Facebook, Instagram etc. regularly and avoid having the same password in several places.
