In December, the minister participated in a deer hunt with a dog in the Drøbak area. Here she met representatives of the Norwegian Hunters and Fishermen Association (NJFF) for exciting hunting and good discussions.
Venison accounts for over 20 million in Norway dishes of venison annually. At the same time, this corresponds to the consumption of meat for over 200 inhabitants of Norway.
In addition to game, hunting is an exciting and attractive experience. It's an industry that has the potential to grow significantly, says Bollestad.
Half a million registered hunters
In total, there are over half a million registered hunters in Norway - this is shown by data from the register of hunters at the Norwegian Statistical Office (SSB). Of these, almost 15 percent are women.

Unsuccessful hunting
Hunting as an industry and several other topics became the subject of fruitful discussions during deer hunting in the area of Drøbak. Unfortunately, the hunt was not successful that day, but NJFF representatives are still able to make a tasty elk stew for the minister to taste something wild.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food took over responsibility
In 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food took over responsibility for the part of the administration that concerns game resources. This is true for species that can be hunted. Thanks to this transfer of tasks, the government will facilitate the development of business in agriculture. Where hunting can also be combined with an agricultural resource base, agricultural tourism and local food investment. It is also important to activate life outdoors.
