The government has decided that people living in Sweden and commuting to Norway can cross the border via the old Svinesundsbroen bridge.
The change took effect on Thursday 17 June at 12.00.
- Holidays are approaching, and we can already see that there are queues at the border. This mainly applies to carriers and daytime commuters. That is why I have decided that commuters who live in Sweden will be able to use the old Svinesund Bridge when they commute to Norway, says Minister of Justice and Crisis Management Monica Mæland (H).

Upon arrival, commuters must provide documents proving that the person concerned lives in Sweden or Finland. Confirmation from the Norwegian employer that the person is commuting to work. And a coronavirus test negative certificate made within the last seven days prior to arrival in Norway. The test must be done in Norway, Sweden or Finland.
The legislation now only allows Norwegian citizens living in Sweden to use legally closed border crossings such as the old Svinesund Bridge. An exception is only for the use of the old Svinesund Bridge and not as a general exception.
This will make it easier for daytime commuters to cross the border while taking the burden off border control at the new Svinesundsbroen, says Mæland.
