On Thursday, the general ban on burning fires in forests and fields will be lifted. According to Norsk Friluftsliv, interest in outbreaks increased during the pandemic.
- During the pandemic, many longed to gather around the fire. In particular, interest among young people has increased. There is little indication that it will disappear in the future, says Secretary General Bente Lier of Norsk Friluftsliv.
According to a poll by Ipsos, one in four young people aged 15 to 24 replied that they smoked more fires during the pandemic, and that the summer smoking ban will be lifted on Thursday.
Lier encourages people to burn fires on trips, while being careful.
- You must always make sure that it is safe to light a fire where you are. Be aware of weather and wind conditions and make sure the fire is extinguished before leaving the site. In dry periods with a high risk of forest fires, municipalities may introduce local bans, even now in autumn and winter.
