As of Wednesday, residents over 16 years of age can choose which vaccine they want in doses of 1 and 2. Informs the Municipality of Oslo.

The same applies to people with a weakened immune system who should receive a third dose of the vaccine.

The decision came after the National Institute of Public Health informed the heads of municipalities that adults could choose the type of vaccine themselves. Because the availability of both Pfizer and Moderna is sufficient.

- We have many vaccines in stock by mid-October, both Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna. As a result, the municipality can now offer a choice of the type of vaccine. Informs Oslo's head of vaccination program, Miert Skjoldborg Lindboe, in a press release.

Oslo residents can choose the type of vaccine

Lindboe hopes this will lead to more vaccinations in Oslo, and stresses that combining doses is safe.

- If residents want a vaccine that the center does not offer on the day the person shows up. You can make an appointment on a different day when the type of vaccine is available, says Lindboe.

There is no guarantee as to how long different types of vaccines will be in stock. Lindboe recommends that you show up at the immunization center as soon as possible.

Oslo will generally continue to offer Pfizer children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Both types of vaccines are approved for everyone over 12 years of age.

Not only in Oslo

Good access to both types of vaccines used in Norway means that people who are to be vaccinated in the future can choose the dose of the vaccine themselves.

Until now, the Norwegians had been receiving the type of vaccine for which they were established, which meant that some were receiving a dose of each of the two types of vaccines available in Norway.
