This year's Food Security Committee meeting takes place immediately following the Food Systems Summit in New York. The summit in New York took place on September 23, chaired by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The summit launched a decade of UN action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. It will help strengthen the capacity of food systems to overcome the negative consequences of the corona pandemic and put the world back on track to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The process leading to the summit was led by UN special envoy Agnes Kalibata. It was an 18-month process that brought together UN member states, youth, food producers, civil society, scientists and the private sector to promote real changes in world systems food.
