To date, more than 60 people have taken three doses of the vaccine, either as a third dose or as a refreshment dose. People belonging to vulnerable groups should take advantage of the offer to ensure they are well protected.
We see more and more people with a weakened immune system taking the third dose
“Every week we see more and more people with severely compromised immune systems taking the third dose, and it's very good. At the same time, we believe that some have either not received the offer or have not yet had the opportunity to receive a third dose of the vaccine, says Sara Viksmoen Watle, FHI's chief physician.
An additional dose of vaccine will improve the conditions for better protection
Watle points out that those who are currently being offered a third dose of anti-Covid-19 are those who are more prone to infection. This additional dose of vaccine will improve the conditions for better protection. Therefore, it is very important for them to know this offer. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the municipality or their family doctor for a third dose offer.
People who are immunocompromised should take a third dose of the vaccine
The reason for the recommendation is that this group of patients responds less to vaccines compared to healthy controls. This also applies to vaccinations against Covid-19. In addition, they are also more likely to get seriously ill if they become infected with the coronavirus. Several studies now show that some of them may have a better immune response after receiving the third dose of the vaccine.
Who is in the severely compromised immune group?
1rd Group
- Organ transplant
- Bone marrow transplant in the last 2 years
- Severe and moderate hereditary immunodeficiency
- Severe renal failure (stage 5) or active dialysis
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
Anyone who has a diagnosis as listed for Group 1 must document this. Confirmation in the form of a letter with a vaccine from a specialist health service, medical note or other equivalent written documentation.
People with severe immunodeficiency should take a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine
2rd Group
- Patients undergoing significant immunosuppressive therapy for other reasons.
- Patients using immunosuppressive drugs on the list below from specialist medical communities can contact the municipality directly. It must be possible to provide a record of your medication in the form of a vaccine letter from a health care provider, medical memo, prescription / e-prescription, or a drug package with the patient's name on it.
- Cancer patients with active or recent immunosuppressive therapy.
- They must now have a vaccine letter from the specialist healthcare provider. Because individual evaluation should be made to get the best possible vaccine effect and avoid unnecessary side effects.
- Patients who are considered by the responsible specialist physician to have severely compromised immune systems and who do not belong to any of the above groups.
- They must have their own vaccine letter from the specialist healthcare provider.
The difference between the third dose and the booster dose is:
- The third dose is for those who did not get a good enough effect after the first two doses. There was severe immunosuppression.
- A booster dose is for those who have had a good effect of two doses but need a protection refresh. For 65+ and nursing home residents.
