Third dose of vaccine in Norway for Healthcare workers who come into contact with the patient

Healthcare professionals in contact with the patient will now receive a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, says Health Minister Ingvild Kjerkol.

- To protect frontline people and prevent the spread of infection, healthcare professionals in contact with you will receive a third dose. We're starting with those first to receive the vaccine, Kjerkol said at a press conference about the coronavirus situation Thursday night.

The municipalities and the National Institute of Public Health are working to determine how this should be implemented to keep the burden on municipalities as low as possible.

The municipalities are asked to take action

Several municipalities and cities across the country are currently struggling with the growing COVID-19 disease. In several places, they even recorded the highest infection rates since the outbreak of the pandemic.

On Thursday, the sanitary authorities held a meeting with communes that are struggling with epidemics. These municipalities are in a difficult position, Kjerkol said after the meeting.

- The government is following the situation closely. There is no need for domestic measures, but it's time to roll up our sleeves again, she said.

- High infection over time leads to more patients and more pressure on municipal health services. Therefore, it is very important that municipalities with coronavirus outbreaks do not hesitate to take action and introduce local measures.

Among the municipalities that have recently struggled with record high levels of infection are Trondheim and Tromsø, which held press conferences on the infection situation on Friday.
