, this is according to the latest FHI weekly report

-We tolerate more infections in society now that so many have been vaccinated. But we are now following very closely the development of new patients admitted to hospitals. We do not want the burden on health care in municipalities and hospitals to be too high - says the director of the Line Vold branch at FHI.

Now it is at the same level as its highest level in spring 2021

The coronavirus outbreak in Norway continues to grow, according to a weekly report last week. The number of new patients, the number of deaths per week and the number of infected are increasing. 135 patients were admitted for COVID-19 at week 44, and the number of new admissions for the age group 65 and older has increased in the past four weeks. This is now at the same level as high in spring 2021.

Weekly deaths have also increased in the past three weeks. To date, 28 COVID-19-related deaths have been recorded at week 44 and 16 at week 43.

Vaccines protect

The report shows that vaccines protect well against serious disease. The incidence of hospitalization is much higher among unvaccinated people than among those who are vaccinated. The number of newly registered infected (per 100 population) at week 000 was almost four times higher in the unvaccinated population than in fully vaccinated people aged 44 and over.

- Remind all unvaccinated adults that vaccination can protect them against serious disease. Line Vold says that a refreshment dose for the oldest vaccinated will give them extra protection, and municipalities must prioritize this vaccination in the coming weeks.

174 people were vaccinated with a third dose or booster dose.

Number of hospitalized and infected. 39% increase in reported cases of infection

It has happened in the last three weeks number increase registered infected. So far in week 44, 9728 cases of COVID-19 have been reported, a 39% increase since week 43 (6992). There were major changes to the testing strategy in the fall. Data on reported cases are therefore not directly comparable over time.

– The epidemic is getting wider, especially among children and adolescents, who are seriously ill to a small extent. However, with more infections among children and young people, there is also a greater risk of increased infections among older, unvaccinated people and others at higher risk of serious illness, says department director Line Vold at NIPH.
