Norwegian meat stores are empty and there is a bidding war at international meat auctions. The Norwegian Directorate of Agriculture believes that there may be a price jump.

The directorate believes that the high interest in meat auctions is indicative of the expectation that Norwegian meat production will not meet the market needs next year.

The attendance at the imported meat auction rounds was exceptionally high and the prices much higher than before, says Jørn Rolfsen, director of the Norwegian Directorate of Agriculture.

- The prognosis for the future is uncertain. Some believe that this is normalizing. Perhaps cross-border trade will increase, but this is uncertain, says Rolfsen.

It points out that prices have skyrocketed around the world.

- Commodity prices have doubled. This could be a price trend that continues to rise, says Rolfsen.
