. Businesses are being warned of an increased risk of cybercrime over the Christmas period.

The National Security Authority (NSM) warns Norwegian companies of an increased risk of cyber attacks on Christmas. He also asks them to be more careful and vigilant during this time.

NSM director Sofie Nystrøm says experience so far shows that hackers are using their days off to attack. It is on these days that many companies have a lower preparedness in case of crisis situations, therefore, this increases the risk of an attack. Both the US and Norwegian security authorities have experience in recent years which shows that both criminals and foreign countries are using lower disaster preparedness during the holidays to gain access to computer systems.

- Those behind cybercrime will take advantage of any opportunity to reach Norwegian companies, and Christmas is no exception. While most people can rest and relax on Christmas, it's important that we are also prepared for digital blackmail over the holiday season, for example, says Nystrøm.

NSM encourages companies to verify that their emergency plans are up-to-date. Don't forget about basic security measures, such as strong passwords and two-step login confirmation. At the same time, employees should be warned against digital scams and phishing attempts.

"This problem has become so serious that you can go bankrupt," says Nystrøm.
