- The government decided yesterday afternoon that Norway will offer Ukraine arms support in defending the country against military attack by Russia. So we are on the same line with close allies and other Nordic countries. Norway has a restrictive practice in the export of defense equipment, but Ukraine is now in a unique situation, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Like other countries, Norway has received an overhaul of the military equipment Ukraine needs. On this basis, the Armed Forces assessed what Norway could quickly offer. On this basis, the government decided to hand over up to 2000 M72 anti-tank weapons.

- This is a contribution to supporting Ukraine in defense against a military invasion. It is a weapon that is easy to use and is used to defend against attacking armored vehicles. The Armed Forces are now working to prepare and ship materials as quickly as possible, says Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen.

Norway has previously allowed other countries to support Ukraine with ammunition or weapons produced in Norway. February 27 the government decided to transfer it to Ukraine protective equipment such as helmets and vests.

It is a donation, not a trade export

- After consultations with the Storting, the government made a decision to hand over weapons to Ukraine. Russia's invasion of Ukraine requires that we authorize very specific decisions and measures, says Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

It is a donation, not a trade export.
