NAV Allowances and Benefits for Families with Children covers a wide range of services. The following are available: family allowance, baby allowance, pregnancy allowance, parental allowance (including maternity and paternity allowance) and care allowance.
Barnetrygd, i.e. family allowance
Family allowance is granted to all parents who raise a child under 18 years of age. The basic condition is that you have earned an income which is covered by health insurance contributions in Norway. The current amount of family allowance is NOK 970.

Kontantstøtte, that is, care allowance
Parents caring for a child aged 1 to 2 may receive a carer's allowance. NAV is responsible for recognizing the legitimacy of the payment of this benefit. It is possible to obtain compensation up to 3 months back. Currently, the amount of the care allowance is NOK 7 per child.

Engangsstoh, i.e. baby shower
Becikowe in Norway is available to every mother who has not earned the right to parental benefit. This is a one-off payment for the birth or adoption of a child. It is worth knowing that taking advantage of this benefit prevents the granting of the right to parental benefit. Currently, the baby allowance in Norway amounts to NOK 63 140.

Svangerskapspenger, i.e. pregnancy allowance
In Norway, pregnancy allowance is granted to a woman who carries out work that may have a negative impact on the course of pregnancy. However, NAV requires that you talk to your employer about these circumstances before applying for this benefit. Its task is to eliminate all hazards in the workplace. However, if the job specification involves a risk for pregnancy and there is no possibility of changing it, you can submit an appropriate application to NAV.

Foreldpenger, that is, parental benefit
Parental benefit is an important link in the Norwegian social welfare system. To obtain it, you must meet a number of requirements, including have worked in Norway for the last 6 months. You can choose between two types of benefit calculation - 80% wage coverage or 100% wage coverage. In the former case, you will be entitled to 59 weeks of parental benefit, and in the latter, 49 weeks.

It is important to know when receiving parental benefit that there are three different periods. They are as follows:
- Fellesperiod, i.e. a period common to both parents - it may last from 16 to 26 weeks depending on the selected pay coverage rate,
- modrekvote, i.e. the period of parental benefit intended exclusively for the mother,
- fedrekvote, i.e. the period of parental benefit intended only for the father (see: paternity leave - pappapermisjon >>>).

NAV allowances and benefits in Norway also include the possibility of granting allowances for employees and the unemployed. The most frequently charged ones include unemployment benefit and sickness benefit.
