The Working Environment Act does not give you the right to time off to see a doctor or dentist during working hours. However, many workplaces have different arrangements.

The Working Environment Act does not contain provisions that would give the right to time off, paid or unpaid, to visits to a doctor, physiotherapist, etc. If you are to make such visits during working hours, you must obtain time off work in another way, e.g. vacation. It is true that the Environmental Act work includes some provisions in Chapter 12 which apply in specific cases. Pursuant to § 12-9 section 1, an employee caring for a child is entitled to leave if the child must be cared for during medical examinations or other check-ups due to illness. Pursuant to § 12-1, a pregnant employee is entitled to paid leave in connection with pregnancy monitoring. Provided that the inspection cannot take place outside working hours.

Many workplaces have different rules for short-term absences than those set out in the Working Environment Act . Many workplaces have arrangements in place that give employees the right to see a doctor, dentist, etc. during working hours without deductions from wages. It is therefore necessary to look at the individual employment contract, applicable collective bargaining agreement or other agreements to see what applies to such short-term absences.
