“We are now in close dialogue with allies and Ukraine on how Norway can best contribute. We are working as fast as we can to stand up for Ukraine. Norway made a big contribution in 2022 and will continue to support Ukraine in 2023, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.

In addition to the tanks themselves, logistical support, spare parts and training of Ukrainian personnel will be much needed.

“It is important that we coordinate with allies and partners to make overall assistance as effective as possible for Ukraine,” says Gram.

Contribution Norway will take place in close dialogue with the Norwegians Armed Forces.

– We make trade-offs based on our own needs and readiness. Now it's good to donate some of your own equipment to support Ukraine. For safety Norway important is that Russia should not win with its aggression against Ukraine. Situation also affects Norway's security and Europe, says Gram.

Ukraine needs international support, both civilian in the form of military materials and the training of its own forces. The government is now planning a larger contribution, which will take several years. Norwegian military support for Ukraine includes donations of military equipment from its own stockpile, grants for international cooperation, donations of brand new equipment and training of Ukrainian military personnel.
