Wet Monday is a folk holiday celebrated on the first Monday after Easter. It is a day on which villages traditionally held rituals to protect fields from evil spirits and ensure good harvests.

Wet Monday

During Wet Monday, people went to the fields where they performed various rituals. The most important element was the so-called "Śmigus-Dyngus" or pouring water. The water symbolized rain, which was supposed to ensure the right amount of rainfall while the plants were growing. In some regions, there was a custom of giving eggs, which also symbolized fertility and fertility.

Lany Monday has its roots in pagan spring rituals, which over time were associated with the Christian calendar. In some regions of Poland, the celebration of Lany Monday is more solemn and religious in nature. IN Holy masses are celebrated in churchesand then processions with a figure of Christ carrying a banner.

Wet Monday is therefore not only a traditional Polish folk holiday, but also an important element of our culture and history. It is a time that reminds us of the closeness of man to nature and of traditions and rituals that have survived many centuries and are still alive in our culture.

The main element of Lana Poniedziałek celebrations is the tradition of pouring water on each other. People, both young and old, take part in this joyful ceremony by pouring water on each other from buckets, syringes or other containers. There are no exceptions - everyone is susceptible to these types of playful water attacks!

Śmigus-Dyngus is one of the oldest and most cultivated folk holidays in Poland. Nowadays, it is primarily an opportunity to have fun and meet friends and family, but the religious tradition associated with this day is still alive.
