The Inlandet Police District has been investigating the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser and RAV4 since June 2023. A breakthrough in the case came only 4 weeks ago, when a warehouse was discovered in Lena, where 7 cars stolen throughout the year were found. Two new arrests have already been made in this case.

He was arrested yesterday in connection with the planned action two men in their thirties. They were charged with forgery or complicity in this crime. The men were arrested at two different addresses in Romerike.

– We will have to return to what confiscations were made at a later stage of the investigation. A hearing will be held and we will continually assess whether the men should be placed in pre-trial detention, says police lawyer Christine Lundstein.

In connection with the attack on Lena, which took place in mid-October, a man in his thirties has already been detained. He was charged with robbery with particular cruelty and confessed to the circumstances. The charges were filed also two other people, but after their arrest they were released. The grounds for suspicion against the two had weakened.

Investigation status

The investigation is in full swing and there are many information and materials requiring review. Among other things, extensive forensic work was carried out in connection with the warehouse in Lena, the results of which have not yet been finalized. A number of tactical investigative steps are also being taken, including by road team work international.

Mainly Toyota cars

We can link 10 stolen cars to a warehouse in Lena. These are mainly brand cars Toyota, but also Tesla and BMW. 7 of them were on site:

  • BMW stolen in Lillestrøm w January 2023 r
  • Toyota Rav4 stolen in Kløfta in June 2023
  • Toyota Rav4 stolen in Kløfta in July 2023
  • Toyota LandCruiser stolen in Kolbu in July 2023
  • Toyota LandCruiser stolen in Vallset in September 2023
  • Toyota LandCruiser stolen in Valdres in October 2023
  • Toyota LandCruiser stolen with Holter in October 2023

Shared traits

As of today, 2023 Toyota Rav27s and Land Cruisers have been registered stolen in 4. All vehicles were stolen within a limited geographic area in the country eastern Norway. We are talking about new car models (2018-2022) and in most cases this the owner had control of the car keys.

It is known that these models are exposed to the so-called “frontly shacking.” Hacking the headlights is done by getting into the car's wiring harness in the front wheel arch and connecting to the wiring harness at the headlights, thereby gaining control of the car. It's known that method this is also used in other models. The investigation revealed that this method was used in several cars, both those found near Lena and at least two vehicles that were found again in the summer.

Foreign criminal network

The police hypothesized that the thefts were carried out by foreign criminal networks and that the cars were modified and then taken out of the country. The investigation so far has confirmed this hypothesis, and the company appears to be professionally organized.
