On Wednesday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 14 p.m., the Norwegian Public Roads Authority and the Nedre Romerike Fire Department will exercise together in the Hagantunnel in Nittedal. The tunnel will be closed during the exercises.

The Norwegian Public Roads Authority and the Nedre Romerike Fire Department will practice what to do in the event of a collision that ends in a fire with a lot of smoke. Smoke will come out of the tunnel openings and a blue light will turn on in the tunnel.

But these are just exercises. The Norwegian Public Roads Authority encourages road users to drive calmly. It is also important to follow the detour signs through Hagan during the exercise.

Practice makes perfect

The Norwegian Public Roads Authority regularly cooperates with the services rescue teams conduct emergency exercises in national road tunnels. The main purpose of such exercises is to keep emergency services informed about a given tunnel and the safety equipment there, train interaction and communication, and practice skills and efforts.

– Thanks to such exercises, the rescue services are better prepared to deal with a real tunnel incident in an effective and safe way, says Espen Ødegaard, tunnel manager and head of fire protection for national road tunnels of the National Authority Roads in Oslo and Nedre Romerike.
