for the whole country. The background of the case is the coronavirus pandemic.

- We still encourage you to replace studded tires as soon as possible. But we see many challenges in this difficult time. Tire workshops and hotels may be closed or have limited serviceability. This is Ingrid Heggebø Lutnæs from the Norwegian Public Road Administration.

The Norwegian Public Roads Authority has decided to waive the normal terms for studded tires. The date for replacing studded tires is April - and applies equally to southern and northern Norway.

Former tire replacement dates

Originally, studded tires were changed on the first Monday after Easter Sunday in southern Norway and until May 1 in northern Norway. The Norwegian Public Roads Authority granted a similar postponement last spring. Sweden also introduced such a deferral.

- But it was a difficult decision. It is a pity that vehicles with studded tires travel on the road longer than necessary. The combination of studded tires, dry roads, heat and driving speed create a lot of airborne dust. We ask that those who have the opportunity to change as soon as possible do so to reduce other environmental inconveniences and do not wait that long. says Lutnæs.
