Under UN Human Law, all human beings are inherently worth, and ethnic or religious origin, age, gender, or sexual orientation are irrelevant to human dignity. The police must also, as far as possible, protect people from discrimination.

Everyone has the right to live freely

- In the police force, we support Pride as a celebration that celebrates the equality and diversity we have in society. In Norway, there is broad cross-party support for the celebration and the main message that everyone has the right to live freely, says Police Director Benedicte Bjørnland.

- I am concerned about whether the police as an agency are able to recruit diversity. We should reflect the society and the citizens we serve, adds the Police Director.

. Working for diversity every day

It's one thing to say that you support a cause, show colors once a year, or go to a parade. Another thing is to show that these are not empty words. The police director is concerned about this.

- Understanding the different sexual orientation or gender identity in our own ranks is crucial, it allows us, the police, to be the police for all - he adds.

He concludes by underlining that the police are one police force for all
