– Time for more stringent regulations at sea? – asks Norsk Friluftsliv.
Every third inhabitant of Norway is nervous about fast motorboats and jet skis. A national survey of Ipsos asking people what annoys them most when traveling in sea and coastal waters.
- There are many of us who are looking forward to a vacation at sea, but here, too, it is important to be cautious. Peace and quiet are some of the top reasons people look for nature, and high-speed vehicles can cause both noise and uncertainty, says Bente Lier, Norsk Friluftsliv's secretary general.
The coast must be for everyone. The current traffic picture requires more stringent regulations
The umbrella organization is concerned about what they believe is a growing conflict between users of the sea. Where users such as rowers, sailors and swimmers are relegated. They believe it's time to introduce stricter ones speed limits for boats and jet skis.
- The coast must be for everyone. The current traffic picture, with more and more recreational vessels moving at high speed, requires more stringent regulations so that everyone can feel safe at sea, says Lier.
The government is currently considering introducing a high speed certificate for recreational boats with a speed above 50 knots, which corresponds to 90 km/h. Norsk Friluftsliv welcomes the idea of a speed certificate, but believes that the limit should be set at 30 knots to ensure safety at sea.
