According to the latest statistics, the state budget last year obtained over NOK 10,2 billion in revenues from fees paid by drivers at the gates. The Norwegian Road Administration predicts that next year's revenues may reach NOK 10,7 billion. The lion's share will be contributions from electric car owners who are currently exempt from road tolls.

Changes from 2019

As we have already informed, tolls in the vicinity of Oslo will also be imposed on the owners of ebiles. From March 1, 2019, they will cost between NOK 5 and 10 each time they pass the gate. The final cost will depend on the time of day - the highest rate is to apply during peak hours. It should be noted that these fees will double in 2020. The situation will be similar in Kristiansad and Bergen. Residents of other towns can breathe a sigh of relief for the time being - local authorities in other regions are not planning to introduce similar changes at the moment.

. Tolls will also increase for other vehicles

Bearing in mind the fees that will be charged to drivers of cars with gasoline and diesel engines. It should be emphasized that the cost of eballs remains attractively low. At the same time, charges for drivers who drive vehicles below 3,5 tonnes will be NOK 52 and 58. It also means a significant increase compared to the previous years.

This is the beginning of change

As expected by experts, the introduction of tolls for ebili drivers is just the beginning. According to Knut Skogstad, such a move by the authorities was predictable. All because of the growing interest in electric cars, as a result of which their number on the roads is constantly increasing. It is also a logical consequence of efforts to reduce the number of cars in city centers.

According to Knut Skogstad, the greatest frustration among residents is the fact of restricting entry to the centers of larger cities without preparing any reasonable alternative. This is a particular inconvenience for people who travel downtown to their workplace on a daily basis. Without a well-developed means of public transport, they are forced to incur enormous costs related to traveling to the company for which they are employed. The amount spent in road gates is substantial on an annual basis, which is noticeable in the household budget.

What will change for ebile owners?

Ebili owners in the cities of Oslo, Bergen and Kristiansand will be required to pay the toll from March 1, 2019. What's more - from 2020 its amount will increase from the planned NOK 5-10 to NOK 10-20. The increases also apply to drivers using internal combustion vehicles. They, in turn, will be required to pay from 52 to 58 NOK at one time, depending on the time of day. However, not everyone likes this idea. While the activities related to reducing traffic in city centers are understood, the lack of alternative solutions is controversial, according to the residents. This generates costs among people who travel to the center every day due to the fact that they work there. On an annual basis, the costs related to road tolls turn out to be really significant, and such employees have no possibility of reducing them.
