Two Rema 1000 network employees have heard corruption charges. The police conduct proceedings against them to award bribes in exchange for employing people of foreign origin. The suspects were detained on October 4 and will not be released until the case is resolved.

Rema 1000 informed the services

The management of the Rema 1000 chain informed about his suspicions. Representatives of the supermarkets contacted law enforcement agencies, which they informed about their suspicions against two employees. Officers immediately and preventively arrested the suspects on October 4.

"They accepted a bribe from other employees"

According to the Norwegian police, the arrested were supposed to accept a financial advantage from other employees of the supermarket chain in exchange for employing foreigners. "Officers have reason to believe that the suspects have been involved in a corrupt practice," says Mathias Emil Hager in an interview with Nettavisen. "The way they did it clearly shows that we are dealing with a bribe."

Who are the detainees?

The first Rema 1000 employee detained is a 46-year-old who collected large sums in return for employing foreigners. He also took 15% of their salary in exchange for the fact that they could work in supermarkets belonging to the chain. After his arrest, it turned out that he was not aware that his actions could have criminal consequences.

The second detained worker is a 20-year-old. He, in turn, collected fees for employment in Rema 1000 from foreigners and transferred them to the 46-year-old. Even he, however, contributed part of his salary to the older worker. It was probably he who informed the management of the supermarket chain about the situation.

No details

The case officers are not willing to provide any additional information. For this reason, it is not clear exactly how many employees had to pay the 46-year-old in return for employment, and it is not known how long it all lasted. It is probably about 10 foreigners who act as victims in the case.

The management of Rema 1000 wrote an e-mail to NRK saying that no more details could be provided until the matter was resolved. The representatives of supermarket chains themselves do not want to provide explanations and claim that more precise information is the responsibility of the police officers in charge of the case.
