Addiction to alcohol, drugs or other substances has various causes. Some people can cope with it, have hit rock bottom where others aren't even looking for help. The former in Norway get a second chance, all thanks to a successful project between NAV and LAR.
Addiction and the success of the people who came out of it
A person who resorts to alcohol, drugs or other substances that give him temporary relief has his reasons for doing so. He is often judged and hardly any person can lend him a helping hand. Fortunately, in many countries there is help for addicts, thanks to which many of them bounce back and start living anew. This is what happened with Bjørn Tore. The man is 39 years old, of which he has spent 15 years being addicted to drugs. Today he is the chef at the Troll restaurant in Trondheim. In fact, if it wasn't for the chance to work, earn money, contact people, that is, return to normal life, Bjørn believes that it would not be as good as it is now.
The past will never fade away
A person who allows himself to be helped and implements the advice of others into his own life is still an addict. It is a constant and eternal fight against temptation. Without the help of LAR and NAV, many people could have continued to share the same fate. Returning to normality can be very difficult, especially if we have a history of addiction behind us. The employer doesn't want to give us money work because he is afraid that we will cause him more trouble than good. Bjørn tells TV NRK that if it were not for the help he received in finding a job, his recovery from addiction would be much more difficult. He adds that there is not a day that goes by that he forgets his 15 years of addiction, he is reminded of it by the drug Suboxone, which he has to take twice a day.
Many people fall back into addiction
Getting out of addiction is a very difficult and arduous process. It requires a lot of determination, strong character, willingness to overcome addiction, but also great support from people educated in this subject and from our immediate environment. If we have managed to recover from addiction, our environment has a great influence on us when we return to addiction. Hopefully the project that helps addicts get back to normal life by finding jobs for these people will continue to be so successful and the current 100 people who have been employed in Trondheim will continue to grow.
