The loss of documents is not one of the most pleasant events. It is worth remembering that the Consular Section of the Republic of Poland in Oslo can help the Polish community in Norway with some formalities related to the loss of an ID card or passport. What to do when you lost your most important documents?

Loss of documents - possible consequences

Let's start with the most important issue, namely - what is the risk of losing documents in Norway? The most important consequences include those related to the loss of identity. A dishonest finder may be tempted to impersonate us and obtain certain benefits on this account. Having, for example, our ID card, he can contract the so-called "Payday loan", which we will have to pay back later. There are many forms of this type of loan that you can take out online using only sensitive data.

How to proceed in this case?

In order to avoid unpleasant consequences, the loss of documents should be reported to the appropriate office. In the case of Polish documents, assistance is provided by the Consular Department of the Republic of Poland in Oslo, but not in all cases. Basically, the embassy's support comes down to an identity card and passport.

Loss of passport - proceedings

If we lost, damaged or someone stole our ID card, you should immediately go to the Consular Department. In such cases, there is no obligation to register electronically. We should report the loss of documents in person, having a valid other document with a photo. In justified cases, such notification may be made by traditional mail or fax, but not by e-mail. Officials will inform us about further actions.

Loss of passport - proceedings

The Consular Section of the Republic of Poland also acts as an intermediary in matters relating to passports. After the loss of these documents, the citizen is obliged to appear in person at the nearest consular post to report such an incident. If they have a passport issued after 2003, they will not need to show any other photo ID to prove their identity.

Loss of driving license - proceedings

The situation is slightly different when the loss of documents concerns a driving license. The Consortium Department of the Republic of Poland does not mediate in this type of activity. Therefore, any incidents related to the entitlement to drive must be reported to the issuing authority. For this reason, the reservation of a driving license or the issue of a duplicate should be made in the competent local district office or the City Hall in the case of cities with poviat rights.

Report to the police or report found documents

It is a good practice for the loss of documents to be reported to the Police each time after noticing such an event. Remember to keep confirmation that we have made this type of report. If, on the other hand, we are honest finders of the compatriots' documents, let us take them to the Consular Department of the Republic of Poland. This institution will send them to the exhibitor, from where they can be picked up later.
