Duty-free sales

The latest analysis shows that duty-free sales of 5,5 billion have recently been recorded at a record high. The still developing tourism has a great influence on it. Scandinavia (including, of course, Norway) is a very attractive region for tourists. Unfortunately, the value of the Norwegian krone itself is falling.

Duty free sales statistics

The development of tourism meant that Retail Norway increased its revenues by NOK 247 million and sold goods for over NOK 5,5 billion. Profit after deductions tax can be estimated at NOK 202 million, which means a decrease of 15,5% compared to the previous year.

Duty Free Sales - Increasing sales is important

2018 was a stable year in which the increase in turnover resulted primarily from the increase in foreign tourism and, therefore, more passengers at airports. Naturally, we want this trend to grow and for us to be able to transfer part of the proceeds to the state and Avinor. We also want to be a good employer for our 1200 employees," says Travel Retail Norway CEO Tore Hov.

What do we most often buy at airports?

The largest part of profits comes from the sale of perfumes and cosmetics. Sales are falling wine and strong alcohol, so we still willingly buy beer in the duty-free zone. Tobacco sales dropped significantly.

And what kind of shopping do you most often do during small and big trips?
