The government, wanting to patch up the budget shortcomings and economic troubles, is looking for ways of saving. One of the ideas is to limit rehabilitation benefits for the youngest beneficiaries. Another way to guarantee savings is by removing privileges for refugees. When will the changes come into effect? How will it work in practice?
– taking a closer look at the topic…
The government wants to save up to CZK 2,5 billion a year by eliminating special privileges granted to refugees. Refugees receive relief under the Norwegian social security system. What will change then? For now, refugees who obtained the right to reside in Norway special privileges and rights were granted. This is particularly objectionable because it concerns other emigrants in the country fjords, 40 years of Norwegian membership is required social security system. From January 1, 2020, refugees will lose, first of all, the right to a pension, which is acquired from on the first day after granting the residence permit. After changes, refugees will have to stay in Norway 5 years to gain the right to obtain a disability pension or rehabilitation allowance. So far, it took only 3 years to obtain such a benefit. This is now about to change according to new regulations.
What do the experts say?
this is a good decision that will have a positive impact on the Norwegian economy.
The government's actions are similar to those we expect, Norwegian economy "is doing well and the budget's optimism is justified, but carefully limiting the consumption of oil money seems appropriate in today's situation," Dørum said in an interview with NRK.
How high will the amount of savings be in practice? Nettavisen is already assessing and predicting that an additional 2023 will be received from 350 million crowns for the budget. When the full effect of the change is achieved in 2050, budget savings will reach 2,5 billion crowns annually. It's a very positive and good information.
