For lower secondary and upper secondary school students, all written examinations are canceled. The oral examination is canceled for students in grades VG1 and VG2, but is held for students finishing grade 10 and VG3.

- We would like all exams to be carried out as planned. This school year has seen a number of very different educational offers for students, providing a different basis for assessment.

Students needing a diploma examination

Students needing the diploma examination complete the examination normally, however exam oral-practical and practical are canceled for all students.

- Cancellation takes place after careful evaluation. We have heard many suggestions for and against the appeal, precisely because this decision has unfortunate consequences for both pupils and students, says Education and Integration Minister Guri MelMelby

Assessments must be correct and fair

- The grades that students receive must be correct and fair as far as possible. This is good for both the single student and the other students with whom you are competing for admission to high school and college. We are now canceling the written exam, but it is important that we look at other external assessments of our decision. We will continue to work on this time with organizations and municipalities, says Melby.

Here is the decision on the exam in spring 2021:

All written student exams are canceled.

All oral-practical and practical exams for students are canceled.

There will be an oral examination for grade 10 (trinn).

There will be an oral exam for VG3.

Individual students as well as students who need the diploma examination as well as the vocational and journeyman diploma examination must pass the examination. Students eligible for the new, rescheduled and special exam in spring 2021 will pass the exam together with private students.

Occupational and apprentice testing is not canceled but is carried out in accordance with current infection control measures.

Grades for all subjects in which there is no oral exam are set at week 23.

Grades for the subjects included in the oral examination are determined in week 22.

Possibilities of organizing other types of external assessment for failing students are being considered.

Now students and teachers have more predictability

- I would like to emphasize that students who have their exams canceled will receive a diploma with grades for subjects with which they can apply for further study opportunities. Now students and teachers are gaining more predictability and can make better use of the time leading up to summer, says Melby.
