The Hamang tunnel (Hamangtunnelen), closed for 1,5 years, is already open since yesterday, 6 weeks ahead of schedule. From yesterday, this means a better flow of car traffic for and around Sandvik.

- The original opening date for the tunnel is October 1, but our contractor BMO has been working all summer to finish ahead of schedule and they have succeeded. We are proud to be able to open the tunnel well ahead of schedule, says construction manager Anna Dalsøren Berg of the Norwegian Public Road Administration.

- The opening of the Hamang Tunnel contributes to a better flow of traffic around Sandvika and we are happy and proud that the project has been completed, says May Bente Hiim Sindre, project manager E16 Sandvika - Scout in the Norwegian Public Roads Authority.

The Hamang Tunnel has been renovated. The entire project cost approximately NOK 4 billion

With the opening of the Hamang tunnel, the Norwegian Public Road Administration is now completing the E16 Sandvika-Wøyen project. The Sandvika-Wøyen section, which previously was E16 through Sandvik city center with an average daily traffic volume of 36 cars (ÅDT- årsdøgntrafikk), has now been replaced by a new E000 and the old E16 has become the local road to Sandvika. The project cost approximately NOK 16 billion. The main work at Hamangtunnelen was to repair concrete walls that had worn out significantly over time.

"We also replaced some of the electrical equipment in the tunnel, and the road in the tunnel was also re-asphalted," says BMO's Bent Asbjørnhus, who was in charge of the renovation work in the tunnel.

. Good cooperation between the client and the contractor

- Cooperation with BMO was very good, we had an effective and good dialogue throughout the process. We are very pleased with the quality of the work done by BMO, as well as the fact that they did it well on time, summarizes Dalsøren Berg.
