From today, on September 1, deer hunting begins. This is becoming more and more attractive to Norwegian hunters. The number of deer killed in Norway is growing year by year and has already reached 50. Thus, the number of deer hunted is far ahead of both elk (000) and deer (31740) killed.
Western Norway and parts of Trøndelag are the main areas for deer, but they extend both south, east and north.

This year's bird hunt looks promising. The season starts on September 10

Recent data from Statskog shows an increase in black grouse and forest bird populations in much of the country. Statskog conducted condition assessments on its hunting grounds. Results, that's it good news for tens of thousands of bird hunters in Norway.
In 2019, Statskog closed many areas to hunting after assessing low game bird populations. In 2020, the abundance showed an increase in the bird population and the positive trend continued until 2021. The results of the assessment are actively used to ensure a sustainable hunting pressure.
With few exceptions, the assessment of the black grouse indicates a stable or growing population.

Strengthening business development based on the sustainable use of field resources

In 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food took over responsibility for part of the administration regarding game resources, i.e. species that can be hunted. The reason for this was, among others the opportunity to strengthen business development based on the sustainable use of field resources.
