At the turn of the year, the tax administration had almost 5. active repayment agreements with companies and individuals. Most notably, it concerns deferred tax and fee claims as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The remaining amount that operators owe in taxes and levies is around NOK 2,4 billion.

At the time the program was launched, deferrals of just over NOK 5 billion were granted. As of October 31, 2021, the amount had decreased to NOK 4,5 billion and consisted of approximately 9400 active contracts.

- At the turn year  we have 5 active contracts totaling NOK 000 billion. This means that 2,4 contracts have been completed since October, says division director Cecilie Solum in the tax administration.

Contracts that have been terminated have been fully paid or otherwise terminated.

Deferred repayment until March 31

There is a difference between active repayment agreements and terminated, past due agreements. The resulting difference is due to the interest rate adjustment, voluntary payment and repayment after default.

Due to the new restrictions due to the Cronavirus, the payment date has been postponed from December 31, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Therefore, the dates of subsequent installments will be appropriately postponed by three months, so that the last installment is December 30, 2022.

- We recommend that companies and people who have problems with payments contact the Tax Administration. Even if you have resigned from the program, we still have the opportunity to consider other solutions - says division director Cecilie Solum.

We expect a moderate increase in bankruptcies

Since the repayment date has been postponed, the tax administration cannot say with certainty how many people will have problems paying off debts.ties. Therefore, it is not known how many entities will possibly go bankrupt as a result of breaking the installment system.

- We expect a moderate increase in bankruptcies after the maturity of March 31. But now that payment terms have been postponed by three months, the possible spike in bankruptcy is not likely to happen until spring. It seems as if it could take a while from the insolvency to come to a possible bankruptcy process, says division director Cecilie Solum.

For companies and individuals that already have an installment plan for claims that have been postponed until June 30, 2021 (according to the previous deferral scheme), the next payment deadline is March 31, 2022.

Companies and individuals granted a deferred payment under the new program will automatically be offered an installment plan from May 31, 2022.

The tax authority will publish the updated status of the installment plan contracts approximately four weeks after the March 31 payment deadline 2022 year.
