According to the analysis carried out by NVE, electricity consumption has decreased significantly. Households in southern Norway reduced their electricity consumption by 10,7 percent in November compared to the previous year. Electricity consumption in holiday homes in southern Norway also fell by as much as 23,5 percent in November compared to 2021. These figures have been adjusted for temperature fluctuations.

The decrease we see in households indicates increased energy savings, even though the average price of electricity was very similar compared to November 2021. The average spot price in November 2022 for southern Norway was 113 øre/kWh compared to 106 øre/kWh in November 2021

“This shows that a great many households have taken measures to save electricity,” says Maren Esmark, section manager at NVE.

Large decrease in energy consumption in holiday homes

In holiday homes, electricity consumption has fallen sharply in southern Norway compared to 2021. It is assumed that the decrease is due to the fact that there is no support for electricity consumption in holiday homes. Many have probably lowered the internal temperature to a minimum, it is also assumed that there is a switch to other sources of heating, such as wood.

Some declines in Central and Northern Norway

W Central and Northern Norway decline household electricity consumption in November was 2,6 percent and 1,8 percent compared to last year. These data have also been corrected for temperature fluctuations. In summer houses the discount is 2,5%. and 1,1 percent

Electricity consumption in industry

In November, electricity consumption in industry and the service sector also decreased. In the services sector, consumption declines in the south Norway was 4,5 percent after taking into account temperature fluctuations. Industry in southern Norway reduced consumption by 12,2%. This is primarily due to the reduction in aluminum production as a result of the increase in energy prices.

During this period, electricity consumption by industries in the north increased. This change is largely due to the fact that some of the industry was disconnected the year before and was restarted.

We will receive data for the entire year 2022 in January.
