From Sunday, April 16, there may be a general strike if LO and NHO do not agree to mediation.

If the parties to this year's transitional agreement fail to reach an agreement by midnight on Sunday, LO will first declare a strike for 22 members. Mediation begins on Friday.

“We always try to reach an agreement, but we are well prepared for a strike,” says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik.

Increased purchasing power is a priority

LO's main demand is to ensure workers' participation in value creation and increased purchasing power, prioritizing equal pay and tackling low wages.

For two years in a row, most workers feel that price increases are higher than wage increases. At the same time, the share of employees in value creation has decreased over the last year. This is a process that needs to be reversed.

– We must have our share of the pie – says the LO leader and adds:

“Norwegian workers have taken responsibility for some difficult years for Norwegian working life, with the pandemic and high price increases. Now we see that many companies are doing very well and profits are high. Our goal is to equalize people's differences and ensure that Norwegian employees contribute to value creation.
