The strike in Norway ends. Agreement on settlement of remuneration.
- Historically good result. It shows the benefits of unity. This is a strike that LO members can be proud of, says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik.
All LO members receive NOK 7,5 per hour, low-paid NOK 11,5 or NOK 10,5 depending on whether they have local bargaining rights or not. (See the full result at the bottom of the article.)
“This is much better than the offer we received from the NHO during mediation. This is a historically good result that shows the benefits of standing together and getting up together, says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik.
The strike ends immediately and we ask people to return to work on Friday at 06:00.
People on low incomes will get more
LO and NHO reached an agreement after four days of strike. A strike that largely worked to increase purchasing power and give more to the low-wage.
“Now the LO family – across unions and sectors – has come together to rally support for historically high demands. This is what the trade union movement is all about. In practice, there is unity and solidarity, says the LO leader.
“It will be a wage deal that will increase the purchasing power of broad groups of LO members, and we have provided an extra boost for the low paid.
Make up the differences
For the past two years, the cost of living for most workers has increased more than wage growth. LO's goal is to equalize differences between people and ensure that Norwegian employees participate in value creation. This result contributes to it.
“We know that some of our members either don't have the right to negotiate locally or are having trouble gaining traction in local negotiation. So they received something more in this settlement - says the LO leader.
He adds that LO and NHO agreed to start the work concern problems related to low wages, local negotiations and bonus payments until the next interim settlement in two years.
It is also a powerful reminder to employers that LO does not want a development where more and more of the pay rise is given away as bonuses for particular groups, and those who earn the least are not rewarded in local negotiations.
The low wage supplement works
The LO leader points out that collective bargaining with the lowest wages is often the one that is weak in local bargaining. It is important to raise these groups in central payroll settlements.
“We know that the low wage supplement works and that it is especially beneficial for women,” says Følsvik.

For the time being, it is not known what the proposal accepted by LO is.
The leaders, LO Peggy Hessen Følsvik and NHO head Ole Erik Almlid will meet the press at Riksmekler Mats Ruland at 17:00 for a press conference.
The strike ends immediately and people can return to work, LO and NHO said in a joint statement.
From Monday morning, April 17, 22 LO members went on strike. The strike was to be intensified on Friday 947 April at 21. The strike would then be expanded to include another 06.00 members.
Recall that the Ombudsman's draft proposal, which NHO agreed to on Sunday and LO did not, provided for a 5,2 percent wage increase. With an estimated price increase of 4,9 percent, this gives a real wage increase of 0,3 percentage points.
