This event will take place from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 25 July 2026 in Stavanger.

– For a city located by the sea, it is a great honor to be awarded this event again. Shipping and sailing ships are an important part of the city's history and identity, and we have a long maritime tradition. We are particularly pleased that for the fifth time we can accept scooters from all over the world. It's also good that this is happening right after Stavanger's 900th anniversary in 2025, says Mayor Kari Nessa Nordtun.

The Tall Ships Races is one of the biggest sailing regattas in the world.

– I am sure it will be a great event, with a program that will appeal to everyone from the youngest to the oldest and will create great experiences. And this is happening in the heart of Stavanger, states the mayor.

We plan to involve ports across the region

Stavanger was the most recent host port in 2018, and the city previously had the task in 1997, 2004 and 2011. Very successful events have been held here, both from the point of view of visiting ships and for the region as a host.

– This time we also plan to involve ports in the entire region. We have a long tradition in this – emphasizes Nessa Nordtun.

Project manager ready

Knud Helge Robberstad has been appointed project manager for the event and will take up the position from January 2024. He also held this position in 2018 and is now an advisor to the business department in Stavanger Municipality.

“We will work to bring the biggest and most exciting ships to Stavanger and work well with other host cities. And last but not least, we will work to give the young people of the region the opportunity to sail. It is very nice that this time the regatta will be held both to and from Stavanger. This creates a moment of excitement and ignites the spirit of competition on the boats, says Robberstad.

What are The Tall Ships Races?

The Tall Ships Races is an annual, international regatta that, through sailing training, will help in the development and education of young people aged 15-25, regardless of nationality, culture, religion, gender or social background. At least half of the boat crew must be in this age group.

The Sail Training International organization is a comprehensive organizer of the entire sailing regatta. In 2026, The Tall Ships Races will begin in Aarhus, Denmark, before sailing to Harlingen (Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium), Stavanger and Aalborg (Denmark).
